John Lawrence
1975 -2000 Employed by Lawrence and Sons Contracting for 25 years. I Started
as an Operating Engineer and worked up through the organization. The company was
a General Contractor with its primary focus on Earthmoving. Projects included
Major Highway Grading ,
Urban Streets, Sewer Retention Lagoons and Pipe
Work, and Flood Control Projects for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. All of
these projects involved the intricacies of constructing structural fill. Working
as an operator, then a General Superintendent, and Lastly President, I was
involved in all aspects of the various projects. The project that the Unimin
personnel at Utica may be familiar with is the Levee between the Ottawa High
School,
the Fox River,
and the Illinois River. This project was
similar in many ways to your project, in that it involved gate wells, cut off
trenches and Compacted Earth Fill. This project also included Joe Lawrence in
its construction, who would also be a part of your project. The size and scope
of most of these projects were as large or larger than your project.
